Improving young lives with data visualisation
Can data improve the lives of billions of people? When the data in question tells the story of Early Childhood Development in 138 countries (and is launched at the United Nations General Assembly) then it certainly can. Presenting it in an accessible and engaging format was the unique challenge that Jive Media Africa was faced with.
The work was commissioned by Professor Linda Richter, Director of the DSI-NRF Centre of Excellence in Human Development. Prof Richter, together with a team of international experts, collated the information from multiple sources. It was presented within the broad structure of the ‘nurturing care framework’ and involved plotting more than 6000 data points.
The work was initially presented at the World Health Organisation in Geneva. Subsequently additional countries have been added and the updated country profiles launched by UNICEF at the UN General Assembly in September 2019.
The profiles highlight that the greatest burden of risk for early childhood development is concentrated in Sub-Saharan Africa, where more than 60% of children in most countries are at risk of not reaching their human potential in school and in work. Jive Media Africa are proud to have played a small part in making this important information visible.
