Music and Mindfulness Retreat:
exploring sound and silence
Teachers: Hilary Kromberg and John Roff
Dates: Sunday 12 July – Tuesday 14 July 2020
”There is a lovely road that runs from Ixopo into the hills. These hills are grass-covered and rolling, and they are lovely beyond any singing of it. The road climbs seven miles into them, to Carisbrooke; and from there, if there is no mist, you look down on one of the fairest valleys of Africa.”
From Alan Paton’s Cry, the Beloved Country
Nestled amongst the hills of KwaZulu-Natal is The Buddhist Retreat Centre, featured by CNN as one of the 10 finest meditation centres in the world.
Join multi-instrumentalist and nature therapist John Roff, together with musicologist and yoga instructor Hilary Kromberg, as they navigate the spaces between sound and silence.
The retreat is an experiential and immersive journey through music and meditation. Retreatants will have opportunities for meditative music-making with an array of instruments such as the Shakuhachi Zen Flute, the Mbira, Djembe Drums, the Uhadi Bow and Tibetan Singing Bowls. Movement activities such as mindful walking and yoga will be included. No previous music training is necessary.
